After the coffeehouse

14 10 2010

As I was having lunch with my sr. pastor today he was sharing his vision for remodeling a room into a coffeehouse/cafe.  As much as I like the idea, I’m struck with the concept of what comes after the coffeehouse?  Have we already missed this church trend and should we be thinking in a different direction?

So many churches 10-15 years ago copied Starbucks’ model of ministry by providing a “good” cup of coffee and warm environment to meet and talk.  And although many Starbucks are still very busy, they are closing their doors in other stores because they have overexpanded.

So I wonder…have we missed this trend?  And if so…what is next?  What will be the next great trend that churches jump on after the coffeehouse movement?  It seems like we are late arriving, so anyone have any ideas what is next?  I’d love to know what you think.

After some internet searching I can’t seem to find anything else that churches are doing. So I’m truly at a loss as to “what’s next”.

This appears after I posted that article. Interesting. Is a wine bar/pub with a gallery next? Doubtful to see that in a church but what an awesome opportunity!
